“Imperfection inspires invention, imagination, creativity. It stimulates.”
—Jhumpa Lahiri
When creating our Serve Kindness bowls, we strive for perfection. We turn a keen eye on every bowl, ensuring they meet our exacting standards for color, shape, and size.
But occasionally, a “happy happenstance” occurs. During the creation process, a bowl can take on a unique (and unexpected) characteristic, such as an errant bubble in the otherwise smooth glass, a variation in the brilliance of the interior color, or a near-imperceptible bend in the rim of the bowl.
Now, thanks to a wonderful partnership with Prosperity Candle, these bowls get a second chance to make a big impression and impact.
Prosperity Candle, located in Easthampton, MA, is a social enterprise that supports refugees and artisans through candle-making. They employ a team of women from their community who are working to build a brighter future for themselves and their families in the U.S.
Their work with refugees was particularly appealing to us. We were inspired to create Serve Kindness after a trip to the southwestern border to study immigration, where we learned about the current situation and witnessed amazing acts of kindness on both sides of the border. We left with a new understanding—that communities are strengthened when we choose kindness.
Through our partnership, the talented artisans at Prosperity Candle hand pour their candles into our small Happy Happenstance bowls for a one-of-a-kind creation. The candles are crafted from an all-natural, paraffin-free, soy-wax blend, and are phthalate-free to ensure a beautiful, clean and safe burn. Fragrances range from bright and citrusy to warm and cozy and are formulated from essential oils. The unscented variety is perfect for centerpieces and dinner parties.
After burning the candle, the Serve Kindness bowl then becomes a versatile vessel—replace with your own votive or other small candle, fill with flowers, use it to hold knickknacks. The options are endless!
And as with all Serve Kindness purchases, a portion of the proceeds from your Happy Happenstance Candle purchase also benefits the charity of your choice!
